Violent 2 car crash throws vehicle into building on Detroit’s east side


An accident on Detroit’s east side Thursday claimed one life after a red Dodge pickup truck was slammed into the side of an automotive detail shop.

“It was like a crash that happens in the movies. It was like boom. The red truck went airborne and slid into the building,” said eyewitness Rodney King.

The violent Detroit accident happened around 11:00a.m. on East Warren Avenue at Chalmers near Chandler Park.

Police said a green truck was driving east on Warren Avenue at a very high rate of speed when it hit the red Dodge pickup truck. Detroit police said the pickup truck flipped over about three times before coming to a stop inside the automotive detail shop. The driver of the Dodge pickup truck – described as being in his 50′s- was killed in the accident. His young grandson who was in the truck with him suffered only minor injuries.

“This is very sad. I just can’t believe my eyes. This man was such a good person and his wife Just died not to long ago. She had been sick. He always had his grandson with him. Such a sad day for us,” said a family friend of the deceased driver. Nobody inside the detail shop was injured.

Dozens of people surrounded the accident scene, watching Detroit police, firefighters and EMS crews attempt to remove the vehicle from the building.
