Severe thunderstorms will threaten parts of Pennsylvania to New York through early tonight as a cold front slices through the region. Farther west, more dangerous thunderstorms will rumble across the Plains.

A cold front slicing into heat and humidity across the mid-Atlantic will spark dangerous thunderstorms through early tonight. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and blinding downpours.

The storms are slow-moving, producing very heavy rain in a short amount of time. The heavy rain can spark dangerous flash flooding.

Cities impacted by these dangerous storms include New Haven, Conn., to New York City to Allentown and Harrisburg, Pa. Strong storms can approach Philadelphia as well.

The threat of strong thunderstorms should diminish after sunset.

Farther west, a vigorous storm moving out of the Rockies will slam into more heat and humidity across the Plains.

Violent thunderstorms from western Texas to western Nebraska and farther north into the Dakotas can unleash damaging winds, large hail and even an isolated tornado. Flash flooding can result from heavy rain as well.

Similar to the mid-Atlantic, the threat of dangerous thunderstorms will diminish after sunset.

The vigorous storm moving into the Plains will send a cold front from Minnesota into central Kansas later Sunday. The cold front interacting with the hot and humid air will fire up more dangerous thunderstorms.

Cities set to be impacted by these strong storms on Sunday will include Saint Cloud, Minn., southwest to Sioux City, Iowa, to Omaha, Neb., and Salina, Kan.

Severe weather will spread eastward into the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley and eventually the Northeast next week.
