National Teen Driver Safety Week has Arrived!

Louisiana –

National Teen Driver Safety Week is October 14th-20th and Lee High is gassing up to celebrate this National Safety Holiday with Lexlee’s Kids! Program grants funded by Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, State Farm Insurance and organized by Lexlee’s Kids will allow East Baton Rouge Parish students to REV UP FOR SAFETY! Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of permanent injury and fatalities in teens. Ready, Set, DRIVE! is designed for teen drivers to learn the negative effects of distracted driving and underage drinking, while coming up with ways to promote positive behavior change in teen drivers. This unique, fun and educational program offers a driving simulator and a number of other interactive activities to engage all learning styles.

“This program is so important because young drivers, ages 15-20 years old are especially vulnerable to death and injury on our roadways with traffic crashes being the leading cause of death for teenagers in America. Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers,” says Lexlee Overton, Founder of Lexlee’s Kids.

Together we can equip our teens to travel the road to safety! Ready, Set, DRIVE! presentations will be delivered to 10th grade civics students at Lee High (1105 Lee Drive) on Thursday, October 18, 2012. During the programs, students will engage in hands-on learning through PowerPoint, driving simulation, drunk goggles, games, activities and attention grabbing videos!

Lee High, along with other area high schools offer a TeamSpirit group supported by ICARE. This program is designed for students to spread those important messages related to combating the related problems of underage drinking, use of other drugs and impaired driving by peers. “Lee High’s TeamSpirit sponsor and Lexlee’s Kids are working together to make our roads safer for everyone. Getting the teens excited and involved is definitely the way to go,” says Crystal Pichon, Executive Director of Lexlee’s Kids.
