It’s not too late to get in to the fair for free by spending a few hours volunteering with the Fire Safe Council fair booth.
The 2012 Nevada County Fair is Wednesday, Aug. 8, through Aug. 12. The theme is Barnyard Safari, and the council will be focusing on ember intrusion at its booth this year.
It will also feature a wildfire home assessment and checklist provided by the Insurance Institute for Business Home Safety.
No special training or education is required to help staff the booth. Most visitors are there to enjoy the fair and ask general questions, and many visitors simply stop by for a chipping form. The council shares the fair booth with Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service.
Consider volunteering for one of the evening shifts from 3:45-7 p.m. and spend the hottest part of the day in the Fire Safe Council’s shaded booth, which is stocked with cold drinks for the volunteers.
The fair is open until 11 p.m., so you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy the sights and sounds before and after your shift.
Send an email to info@are
youfiresafe.com, sign up online or call the Fire Safe Council office at (530) 272-1122 to indicate the date and shift you would be willing to volunteer to work.
Volunteers receive an entry ticket to the fair. Parking reimbursement is available upon request.
